Virginia Nickel's Buttermilk Pie Crust

Instructions

  1. Put flour and shortening into a large bowl.

  2. Cut in shortening until dough looks like coarse crumbs.

  3. Add buttermilk and salt.

  4. Mix well (can use hands).

  5. Let dough rest in refrigerator for 20-30 min.

  6. Roll pie dough out and fit into pie pan.

  7. For a blind pie crust (without a filling), prick crust all over, fill unbaked pie crust with foil and then dry beans, or pie weights.

  8. Chill pie crust for 20 minutes.

  9. Bake at 400-425° until crust is golden.

  10. Remove weights, and cool.
